mebi (Mi)
Mebi is a prefix for multi- digit numbers. The mebi (Mi) is a prefix standardized by the International Electrotechnical Commission( IEC 60027-2), based on the exponentiation of the dual system. The megabinary, mebi, corresponds to a value of `2^20`, i.e. 1,048, 576.
Storage capacities should be specified in mebibytes (MiB) if the standard is used as a basis. There is a difference of 4.9% between a mebibyte, which corresponds to 1.048576 megabytes, and a megabyte, which is based on the decimal system.
The advantage of the Mebi prefix (Mi) can be seen when specifying a data throughput on a data bus. Such a specification in megabytes per second( MB/s) is often provided with an addition that indicates the exponentiation system: referred to 1000 or referred to 1024. The correct specifications would be MB/s and MiB/s.
