Mapvertising is a form of online advertising. It refers to the placement of advertisements on online maps such as Google Maps, Virtual Earth, Yahoo Maps, and route calculation websites such as Map24.
The displayed search results in the map are provided with advertising references that are spatially related to the search. These advertising cues are called geo-contextually targeted display ads. Mapvertising can take the form of banners, or it can show the geographic location of stores or restaurants directly on the map.
