luxmeter

A luxmeter is a measuring device for illuminance, measured in lux (Lx), hence the name luxmeter. The luxmeter measures the brightness at the measuring point, which reflects the incident light energy. Luxmeters measure the incident luminous flux in lumens( lm) relative to the irradiated area.

Luxmeters use photodiodes or photoresistors as photosensors, which detect the light and, in the case of photodiodes, convert it into an electrical voltage from which the measured value is formed. The measuring ranges can be switched in steps and, in the case of many luxmeters, range from 0.1 lux to 50,000 lux in several measuring ranges. The measured value is displayed on a multi- digit LCD display. For continuous long-term measurements, lux meters are equipped with data loggers that store the measured values over a longer period of time. The measured values stored in the data log ger can later be evaluated with a personal computer.

Luxmeters are used for illuminance at the workplace, as well as for measuring hall lighting, hall lighting or street lighting, or for measuring the illuminance of window displays so that they are optimally presented.
