lurker

Lurker means observer in German. In Internet terminology, a lurker is a passive participant in an online discussion, chat or weblog. He reads the opinions of the discussion participants and bloggers in the discussion forums or the mailing lists, but does not actively participate in the exchange of opinions or in discussions. From the word lurker, which has negative connotations, lurking has been derived as an activity.
