long haul (LH)

In optical transmission technology, Long Haul (LH), according to the International Telecommunication Union( ITU), is a defined optical SDH interface that uses single mode fibers to bridge long distances.

The three main categories for transmission links

The three main categories for transmission links

The bridgeable distances of Long Haul depend on the wavelength and are 40 km at 1,300 nm and 80 km at 1,550 nm. At distances of about 600 km, the optical signals should be completely reprocessed by 3R regeneration.

This LH technique is used in Long Haul Networks for bridging long distances. Longer transmission distances can be achieved with Very Long Haul( VLH) and Ultra Long Haul( ULH),
