location-aware applications

Location-Aware Applications is a modern technology for the provision and use of location-based applications. It is based on the geographical position information of mobile devices, which is usually provided via satellite navigation using the GPS system, but also via mobile communications and WLAN-based positioning systems.

Precise position information is the prerequisite for a wide variety of location-based services. A wide variety of applications can be derived from the geographic position of users.

Location-aware applications include technical, archaeological and logistical applications such as fleet management, geotagging for entering positions in photos, on-the-go services and, above all, location-based services( LBS) that can be used to find the nearest restaurant or the shortest route. In emergency situations, coordinates can be transmitted to the nearest emergency service via this application.

When using location-aware applications, users can see where they are and which way they are going on a street map. If he deviates from the shortest route, alerts can draw his attention to it. He can have traffic jams and corresponding detours displayed or share his position with his friends on social networks and meet up with one or the other.
