location area code (location) (LAC)

A location area consists of one or more radio cells in a mobile network. The location area code( LAC) is a location-based identifier that marks the area in which the subscriber is currently located. The reference here is the switching center.

Together with the Mobile Country Code ( MCC) and the Mobile Network Code( MNC), the Location Area Code forms the Location Area Identity( LAI).
