A Lobe Attachment Module (LAM) is a network component that allows up to 20 end devices to be connected to a Token Ring network via Lobe cables. They are available for IBM Type 1 or Type 3 cables and for IBM data plugs or RJ45 plugs
. Functionally, a LAM module corresponds to a Multistation Access Unit (MAU), but more lobe cables can be connected to it, namely 20 instead of 8. Individual LAM modules can be daisy-chained to form a Controlled Access Unit (CAU).
