Linkbacks are used to link websites to each other. Such linkbacks can have different characteristics, which are reflected in the terms trackbacks, pingbacks and refbacks.

Linkbacks provide comprehensive linking and improve the attention and status of one's own website. They are comparable to references and literature references in print media.

Especially in weblogs the different linkbacks are used to spread and reference interesting statements, news and opinions in communities. All linking techniques occur between two websites, one represented by the organizer, the other by the receptor.
