link state advertisement (LSA)

Link State Advertisement(LSA) is a broadcast data packet used with Link State Protocols( LSP) that contains neighbor station and path costinformation. The LSA algorithm is used by the receiving routers to check their routing tables.

For example, in the Open Shortest Path First Protocol( OSPF), Autonomous System Boundary Routers( ASBR) exchange link state advertisements with each other, which the routers use to update their routing tables.
