line feed (LF)

LineFeed (LF) is a format control character (FE2) from the IA-5 alphabet that causes the writing device to advance one line. A printer will advance the paper one line upon receiving this control character. On a display, the cursor will advance to the next line. The LF control character occupies position 0A (hex) or 010 (dec.) in the ASCII character set.
