lightweight M2M (LWM2M)

Lightweight M2M (LWM2M) is a messaging protocol for device management in the Internet of Things( IoT). It supports parameterization and monitoring of devices, as well as firmwareupdates.

The LWM2M protocol was developed by the Open Mobile Alliance( OMA) as the successor to OMA Device Management( DM) and is used for communication between the LWM2M server and the LWM2M client. The LWM2M server can be a node in a private or public network, and the client can be embedded in a device.

The LWM2M protocol defines the interfaces for bootstrapping, device discovery and registration, and device management. The basis for the LWM2M protocol is the CoAP protocol.
