job control program (JCP)

A Job Control Program (JCP) is a set of procedural commands for the operating system that control the operations of a computer

and are required to run and monitor a particular job. These include, among other things, requirements for input and output conditions that are specified with job control. In addition to the system procedures, the job control program also specifies the operating functions. The procedural commands of the job control program are written in the Job Control Language (JCL).
