job control language (JCL)

The Job Control Language (JCL) is an instruction language for the IBM mainframe S/390 with the operating systems MVS, OS/390 and VSE.

JCL provides the procedural instructions for the corresponding operating system. The mentioned operating systems distribute their resources to all jobs running in the computer. The JCL language is used to write Job Control Programs( JCP), which are used to process specific application programs. It is a control language for batch processing.
