jackpotting

Jackpotting is the term used to describe attacks on ATMs without the use of massive force. These are software methods that attackers use to exploit ATM vulnerabilities and trick them into dispensing cash.

Unlike skimming, which involves spying on ATM bank account numbers and passwords, jackpotting attacks target ATM cash reserves. There are different approaches to jackpotting. For example, attackers remove the top casing of the ATM to gain access to the components and USB interface. They then connect their own personal computer and infect the ATM with malware to dispense cash.

Another attack technique uses remote access to access the ATM's software. This technique is similar to hackers gaining access to the software via the IP address. The cash is dispensed using a combination of keys.
