interoffice channel (central office) (IOC)

There are several interpretations of the term Interoffice Channel (IOC). In the case of local exchanges, for example, an interoffice channel is the channel connection via which two cabling centers in two central offices( CO) are interconnected.

In the case of interexchange carriers( IXC), the interoffice channel is the connection between the central offices(COs) of two telephone companies.
