internetwork datagram protocol (XNS) (IDP)

The Internetwork Datagram Protocol (IDP) is a network layerprotocol in the Xerox Network System( XNS) protocol stack.

The IDP protocol resides at the network layer and supports routing of data and data packets from various transport protocols, such as RoutingInformation Protocol( RIP), Packetized Ensemble Protocol( PEP), and Sequenced Packet Protocol( SPP). The IDP protocol handles the addressing and routing functions and allows datagrams to be sent. The IDP protocol is functionally comparable to the IP protocol.
