international maritime sattelite organization (INMARSAT)

Inmarsat is an international maritime satellite organization in which 80 countries around the world are currently members. German interests are represented by Deutsche Telekom.

In 1982, Inmarsat launched a mobile satellite radio system. In the early years, this Inmarsat system had been limited exclusively to the maritime sector of the maritime radio service. In the meantime, the activities have been extended to the land area and to the aeronautical area.

Inmarsat services are offered in Germany by DeTeMobil, a wholly owned Telekom subsidiary.
