international domain name system (i-DNS)

The Domain NameSystem(DNS) uses only the letters from the ASCII character set for the DNS name. Umlauts, characters or scripts from other countries and cultures are not taken into account.

These are taken into account by the International Domain Name System (i-DNS), which works with Unicode and includes German umlauts as well as special accents in European alphabets. Furthermore, Cyrillic, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Greek or Arabic character sets can also be used via the Unicode, which is converted into an ASCII character string for the DNS address.
