intermediate distribution frame (IDF)

Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) is a subordinate distributor of a cabling system, for example a floor distributor (EV). It forms an intermediate distribution frame of the building cabling and can contain hubs, routers and patch panels

.From an intermediate distribution frame, the subscriber lines or the floor lines go directly to the subscriber connections (TA). At such an intermediate point, subscriber lines can be cross-connected

to individual service lines. In addition, an intermediate distribution frame can serve as a distribution point forcables coming from the main distribution

frameor the building distribution

frame.

An IDF frame housed in a distribution room may contain distribution switches, routers, power supplies, batteries, and UPS systems in addition to the patch panel.
