interexchange carrier (IXC)

An Interexchange Carrier (IXC) is a network operator that owns transmission facilities and provides interexchange telecommunications services to Local Area and Transport Areas( LATA).

Interexchange carriers interconnect Local Exchange Carriers( LEC) and are identified by the Carrier Identification Code( CIC).
