intelligent personal assistant (IPA)

Intelligent Personal Assistants (IPA), or Automated Personal Assistants, are software agents that can access online and offline resources and perform specific tasks for their users.

IPAs have a voice-guided user interface(VUI) and can answer user questions. As intelligent assistants, they can also perform tasks or services for the user. The functions performed can be based on the user's voice input and also on their location information. This gives the user the ability to access information such as weather conditions, traffic conditions, news, sporting events, stock quotes, user schedules, retail prices, and much more. They can keep the diary, schedule appointments, answer emails, book events, organize meetings and perform other organizer functions.

Intelligent personal assistants understand and answer even complex questions. They recognize the meaning of the user's question and give a personalized answer depending on the context. The intelligent assistant recognizes the intent of the user's query, personalizes answers based on context, and solves the problem using conversational strategies. This also relates to social questions that the assistant answers and responses from frustrated customers.

Intelligent personal assistants are application programs of smartphones and personal digital assistants( PDA). In motor vehicles, they can be part of the Advanced Driver Assistance System( ADAS) and respond to voice input from the driver or perform a related function. For example, they can explain the route to the driver or change the temperature inside the car on request.

In addition to Intelligent Personal Assistants (IPA), there are also Intelligent Voice Assistants (IVA), which are controlled mainly or exclusively by voice. Input devices for these are smartphones, notebooks, digital voice assistants and smart watches.
