intelligent I/O (I2O)

The I2O bus is also known as I2C bus. It was developed by the I2O Special Interest Group. Intelligent I/O (I2O) is a hardware architecture via which the offloading of the central processing unit( CPU) takes place.

The I2O concept is similar to that used in mainframes for years.

The Intel development I2O (Intelligent I/O) is based on the I/O processor i960RP, which combines a complete subsystem on the chip. The fact that the PCI bridge is on the chip means that the PCI bus can be connected directly to the i960RP.
