Integration brokers, also known as integration servers, orchestration servers or integration platforms, provide the substructure for the interaction of the individual web services.

Integration brokers are used to orchestrate web services and provide the corresponding interfaces. Furthermore, integration brokers receive messages from applications, check and analyze them, convert the file formats to be exchanged and transfer them to the target applications. In addition to applying security procedures, integration brokers also manage transactions.

Integration brokers are generally proprietary solutions, although the Business Process Execution Language( BPEL) is already implemented in many products.
