institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE)

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the association of American engineers that also devotes itself to standardization tasks and, for example, promotes the standardization of Local Area Networks(LAN), Wireless Local Area Networks(WLAN), Broadband Wireless Access ( BWA), Wireless Regional Area Networks(WRAN) and their access methods in the IEEE 802working group.

IEEE has only individual members from industry or research, but they are supported from time to time by industrial organizations in their standardization efforts.

IEEE has become known through the 802 committee, which made valuable contributions to the standardization of access procedures and security protocols for local area networks.
