information storage and retrieval system (ISRS)

Information Storage and Retrieval System (ISRS) is a storage system for collecting, cataloging, and retrieving data so that it can be presented on demand. ISRS systems are computer systems for storing, cataloging, retrieving, and selecting relevant data on demand.

In an ISRS system, data may be stored on electronic storage media such as hard drives, solid-state drives, CDs, DVDs, flash memory, or other storage media. The stored information is retrieved using an adequate search mechanism based on Boolean logic. The search parameters can consist of AND, OR and NOT functions.

An Information Storage and Retrieval System is similar to a Database Management System( DBMS) with the difference that the ISRS system is broader in scope and can be used by the general public, whereas a DBMS system supports proprietary enterprise applications.
