The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) is an American non-profit organization that promotes the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). It was founded in 2014 with the aim of promoting IIoT technology in companies.
The IIC activities should be seen in the context of the ongoing development of Industrie 4.0 and the ZVEI activities for the Reference Architecture Model Industrie 4.0 (RAMI 4.0). The IIC concept has a cross-domain approach for the manufacturing industry, but also includes the areas of energy generation, health and transport. The objectives of the IIC include the promotion of innovation and innovative uses, as well as the development of test environments. The IIC is also developing a reference architecture and framework for the necessary interoperability, incorporating existing standards from the Internet and industrial institutions.
The many members of the Industrial Internet Consortium include well-known telecommunications and network technology companies, chip manufacturers, research institutions, universities and government agencies.
