Combating viruses requires that their structure is known. For this reason, all known and ever-occurring viruses that are or have been in free circulation are referred to as ITW (In The Wild) viruses.
There is a listing of all ITW viruses recorded in databases of the WildList Organization International and made available to the user on the Wildlist website. In total, there are several hundred thousand known ITW viruses, but only about one percent of them were more widespread.
The Wildlist organization, which was founded back in 1996, receives its information about viruses from qualified observers who operate worldwide and report current virus threats to the WildList. The WildList is updated monthly.
