image color matching (Microsoft) (ICM)

Image Color Matching(ICM) a color management system for matching image colors to those of a printer. The ICM system is from Microsoft and works under Windows.

In general, both input devices such as scanners or digital cameras and output devices such as monitors, printers or projectors interpret digital color values differently. This is because they do not have uniform color profiles and capture and render their color space differently.

The Image Color Management (ICM) or Image Color Matching (ICM) of Windows works according to the WYSIWYG principle to solve the problem of color deviations. Through this approach, application programmers can activate and access ICM functions. The ICM color management system uses a referencecolor space, the Profile Connection Space( PCS), to match the various color profiles of the different printers, imagesetters, scanners, monitors or projectors.
