high memory area (HMA)
High Memory Area (HMA) refers to the first 64 KB of the extended memory area of the main memory. This part of the working memory can be used from the Disc Operating System( DOS 5.0).
The access to this extended memory area is done by a command structure which needs a corresponding time. In the High Memory Area, which could be used in addition to the conventional memory and the Upper Memory Area( UMA), parts of the operating system or the device driver were normally stored, thus relieving the conventional memory.
