The high beam assistant is part of the driver assistance system in automotive technology. It optimizes the use of the high beam and switches it on and off depending on the situation.

The high beam assistant is a camera-controlled assistant that monitors and evaluates the traffic situation in front of the car and controls the high beam depending on this. The assistant detects the taillights of vehicles in front and the headlights of oncoming vehicles. It also detects bicycles and motorcycles, as well as inner-city street lighting. Modern high-beam assistants also work with adaptive lighting systems, in which the low beam and headlights are additionally adapted to the driving speed, road conditions, load and road layout.
