header error control (HEC)

Header Error Control (HEC) is an error protection in headers. It is an 8-bit checksum field used in protocols that use the Physical Layer Convergence Protocol

(PLCP). Used in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), DQDB header, FHSS data frame, DSSS data frame and WLANs. The check number of the entire cell header for cyclic block checking (CRC) is stored in it. The HEC field is also used for synchronization to the start of the cell.
