Hands-free calling is a feature of telephones, car phones, cell phones and smartphones. It allows you to dial, answer calls and make a call while the handset is on-hook.
A prerequisite for hands-free calling is that the telephone set is equipped with a microphone and loudspeaker. Such a device is useful for making calls while driving or during any other activity that requires both hands.
As an alternative, there is the headset, which is attached to the ear and through which you can establish a wireless connection to the telephone system or computer.
For motor vehicles there are special hands-free devices equipped with a loudspeaker and a microphone, with which it is possible to make calls without removing the telephone receiver. The car driver can answer calls via controls on the steering wheel without picking up the phone. This provides greater driving safety because the driver has both hands available for controlling the motor vehicle.
