ground earth station (satellite comm.) (GES)
A Ground Earth Station (GES) or Land Earth Station( LES) is a satellite ground station consisting of receivers, transmitters and antennas.
A satellite ground station is used to receive and transmit signals to and from telecommunications satellites.
A ground station is generally the downlink ground station that receives signals coming from the satellite and relays them via radio or cable. In this case, we are talking about a downlink station. The uplinks to the satellite can also be switched via such a ground station.
There are also ground stations that can only receive TV signals from the satellite. These ground stations are called Television Receive Only( TVRO).
