ground control point (drone) (GCP)

The term ground control point (GCP) is used with drones to refer to a location-specific point on the earth's surface.

Ground control points are reference points for mapping and direct georeferencing. They are determined by exact position data. Corresponding GCP points are used by geoscientists for accurate geospatial information, for example, to ensure high positional accuracy in construction projects. The positional accuracy of ground control points is in the zintimeter range and even below.

When using drones, ground control points can be omitted if UAV mapping is available.
