Graphics is the generic term for graphical representations. These can be pictures, drawings, artistic representations or diagrams, photos, symbols or animations
. A graphic is a two- or three-dimensional representation. In terms of structure, computer graphics are divided into pixel graphics, vector graphics and raster graphics. They all have a high information content, which depends on the resolution, dynamic range and colour depth. Since the information content of uncompressed graphics can be ten or more megabytes, computer graphics are compressed for transmission and processing. The compression method used depends on the type of graphic. For example, vector graphics are compressed using different algorithms than photos or pixel-oriented graphics.
