graphical kernel system (GKS)

The graphical core system (GKS) is standardized as ISO standard under IS 7942-1985, furthermore as DIN 66252 and as ANSI standard.

GKS provides various basic functions for programming graphical applications. For this purpose, several successive GKS performance levels have been specified in the GKS system. Conceptually, the GKS system provides abstract graphical display and input capabilities and allows device-independent programming.

For application, GKS must be integrated into a programming language.

GKS-3D was specified for the extension to three-dimensional graphics.
