The Global Naming Standard(GNS) is a naming convention for globally unique name identification.

The Global Naming Standard describes the structure and semantics ofnames. This standard ensures that a login name occurs only once in a global network.

The naming convention includes the exchanged names of the organization and server and user specifications for their names, initials, displays, aliases, phone number, X.400 address, and SMTP address.
