G.vlc is a 2019 ITU-T recommendation adopted under the G.9991 standard. G.vlc is about Visible Light Communication (VLC), i.e. high-speed networks whose communication takes place via visible light. This technology is referred to as LiFi, analogous to WiFi
ofseveral gigabits. All lighting devices and also displays
can be included in the networking concept. TheVLC standard supports multiple users per access point
. The G.9991 standard is about the system architecture, the physical layer (PHY) and the data link layer (DLL) for a high-speed optical transceiver.
