gigabit Ethernet over plastic optical fiber (802.3bv) (GEPOF)

Gigabit Ethernet Plastic Optical Fiber (GEPOF) is a concept for automotive Ethernet in which the physical layer of Gigabit Ethernet is implemented over polymer fibers( POF).

It is implemented with data rates of 100 Mbit/s or 1,000 Mbit/s according to the specifications of the IEEE working groupIEEE 802.3bv in compliance with 1000Base- RH. Stepped fibers( SI-POF), multicore fibers( MC-POF) or PCS fib ers can be used as plastic fibers.

GEPOF meets the requirements for automotive Ethernet, smart antennas integrated into the infrastructure, in-vehicle infotainment, battery management system and advanced driver assistance systems. It can be used in both home and industrial applications.
