generalized precision time protocol (gPTP)

The Generalized Precision Time Protocol (gPTP) is a protocol that supports the timing and synchronization of time-critical applications in the home area according to IEEE 802.1AS.

The Generalized Precision Time Protocol (gPTP) is about time-critical applications in Bridged Local Area Networks. 802.1AS defines the requirements for a full- duplex point-to-point link. The standard can handle communication across multiple network interfaces and thus act as an 802.1AS bridge.
