general protection fault (Windows) (GPF)

General Protection Fault (GPF) are errors that tangentially affect protection violations of the operating system, for example when programs overwrite data in the working memory or occupy memory areas that are not intended for them.

The operating system manages the main memory and uses it for its own purposes and for the data of the various application programs and their tasks. If a task exceeds the designated memory area, then the operating system closes the task by aborting or crashing with a Bluescreen of Death( BSOD).
