general mobile radio service (GMRS)

General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a land-based short-range mobile radio service.

It is a short-range radio service that requires a license and is used in the United States, providing two-way communications. GMRS is an analog cellular network that uses frequency modulation.

GMRS operates in eight UHF channels plus an additional seven channels that it shares with Family Radio Service (FRS). Transmit power is typically 1 watt to 5 W, with a maximum allowable transmit power of 50 W. Transmission channels shared with FRS service have an allowable transmit power of 5 W. Comparable services are provided by Citizen Band Radio Service( CBRS), which uses CB radio and is deployed in Europe.
