gateway to gateway protocol (GGP)

The Gateway to Gateway Protocol (GGP) is located at the network layer of the OSI reference model and is built on top of the IP protocol.

The essential part of the GGP protocol maintains routing information exchange that includes GGP and is due to a distributed shortest path calculation.

The routing updates are sent as UDP datagrams with a well-defined format. Under normal circumstances, all GGP participants have a state in which the routing information is generally accepted. GGP is a true distance vector protocol( DVA). However, it is now obsolete and has been superseded by the Exterior Gateway Protocol.
