gateway mobile location center (GSM) (GMLC)

The Gateway Mobile Location Center (GMLC) is a component of the base station for feeding Location Services(LCS).

The GMLC center uses the Mobile Location Protocol( MLP) to exchange data between the Location Services (LCS) and the GMLC. In this process, communication is initiated by an LCS client, which sends a request to the location server, which responds with a response.

The GMLC center forms the interface between the location-based services offered and the mobile switching center( MSC). The Gateway Mobile Location Center forms a gateway function and forwards requests from the location service clients, which are the mobile devices, to the Serving Mobile Location Center( LMSC). It communicates with the Location Server, which determines the positions of the mobile devices.
