gain bandwidth product (GBW)

The gain-bandwidth product(GBW) is a characteristic value of operational amplifiers. From this unified characteristic value, which characterizes the open loop gain, the gain at certain frequencies can be calculated.

The frequency behavior of operational amplifiers is 20 dB/ decade, resp. 6 dB/ octave. Taking this behavior into account, the gain at each frequency can be calculated from the gain-bandwidth product (GBW). For example, if an operational amplifier has a gain of 1 at 1 MHz, then the gain at 100 kHz, one decade lower, is +20 dB, at 10 kHz it is +40 dB, and at 5 kHz, one octave lower, it is +46 dB.
