future public land and mobile telecommunication system (FPLMTS)
Future Public Land and Mobile Telecommunication System (FPLMTS) was the working title used by the International Telecommunication Union(ITU) to standardize mobile communications systems in the 2 GHz band.
During the development of 3rd generation mobile communications systems, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) used this working title for the general standardization of mobile communications, it was later renamed IMT-2000, which stands for International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT) for the year 2000. These are standards for global mobile communications systems that are terrestrial-based or satellite-based.
Target projections of FPLMTS activities were to support multimedia services, higher data rates than 2nd generation mobile systems had, and roaming between different mobile networks.
