enhanced full rate (GSM, Codierung) (EFR)

Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) is a substandard for encoding and decoding voice signals in GSM networks.

The EFR codec increases the voice quality so that it roughly corresponds to the voice quality of the fixed network. The EFR codec has approximately the same data rate as a full rate codec of GSM. The voice codec uses Algebraic Code Excited Linear Prediction( ACELP) and has a bit rate of 12.2 kbit/s for voice. The EFR method has a high voice quality compared to the full-rate method( FR) and the half-rate method( HR).
