full duplex Token Ring (FDT)
As with full- duplex Ethernet, in the case of Token Ring two Token Ring nodes can be connected to each other in full-duplex point-to-point links. The token in the access method is superfluous in this case.
In the case of 16-Mbit/s Token Ring, the theoretically available bandwidth is thus doubled to 32 Mbit/s, and in the case of 4 Mbit/s to 8 Mbit/s. Again, the typical use case is the high-speed coupling of two switching systems or the direct full-duplex connection of network stations to a switching system.
Full-duplex Token Ring is of particular interest in the single connection of end devices to Token Ring switches for segmentation in the form of Dedicated Token Ring.
