fresh out of the box (FOB)

Fresh out of the Box (FOB) is a term for Solid State Drives

(SSD) that have only gone through a few storage and erase cycles since they were manufactured. An FOB drive has a higher performance compared to a drive that has been used many times. This is due to the fact that data on flash memory must be erased before it can be written. Since FOB drives do not require data to be erased, their performance is higher.
